I have been wanting to try to make baked potatoes in my Instant Pot since forever. I have heard that it worked in way less time so I decided to give it a try. The first time I tried it, I used 10 minutes on high pressure and it wasn’t quite done. The next time I tried 15 minutes on high pressure and they were perfect.
Some people choose to do PIP (pot in pot). That means you put a bowl that is oven safe on top of the trivet (with water under the trivet) that came with the Instant Pot and put your potatoes in that bowl. I did it that way and felt it took way longer…so I scratched the bowl and put the potatoes CLEAN right on top of the trivet and boom. Perfect in 15 minutes.
Here are the steps that I took to have the perfect baked potato:
- Clean the number of medium sized potatoes that you’ll need. You can do as many as will find on top of the trivet and get the same outcome.
- Pierce the potatoes using a fork or paring knife. Add 1 cup of water to the bottom of the inner pot and place the trivet on top of the water.
- Place clean potatoes on top of trivet.
- Close and lock lid. Put the pot on sealing and click the manual “high” pressure for 15 minutes and walk away.
- When done, allow for quick release (release pressure immediately)
At this point the potatoes are finished but if you’d like a crispier outside then I recommend you continue to follow me here. Preheat your oven to 475°F.
Take the potatoes from the Instant Pot using tongs and place on a piece of foil that has lined a baking sheet. Rub with Extra Virgin Olive Oil and sprinkle with salt. Put in oven to crisp up for 10 minutes. Remove after the 1o minutes and cut open with a knife.
Add your toppings such as butter, sour cream (greek yogurt) and/or shredded cheese..or be crazy and add all three like I did.
With Instant Pot, your baked potatoes will be ready in 25 minutes, regardless of the size.
Baked potatoes have a completely different texture than steamed potatoes or boiled potatoes.
Robyn, I am a new Instant Pot owner and I am loving it. I have made baked sweet potatoes a few times with success you describe.
